GUWAHATI, Sept 19: In a significant move towards strengthening public service and promoting local employment, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) ceremonially distributed appointment letters to 874 candidates across various departments. The large-scale appointments represent a historic moment for the Council, underscoring its commitment to enhancing service delivery and fostering regional development.

The ceremony witnessed candidates from diverse communities proudly donning traditional attire, adding a cultural touch to the occasion. In tandem with the appointments, the NCHAC also launched Dimasa Medium textbooks for Nursery and class 1 students, a major step in promoting local language education as envisioned by the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Debolal Gorlosa, chief executive member (CEM) of the NCHAC, called the event a historic milestone, emphasising that such a large number of appointments had never been made at once. He highlighted that these appointments were part of a broader strategy to propel Dima Hasao towards greater achievements. Gorlosa acknowledged the challenges faced in securing sanctioned posts, ensuring that appointees would not face future hardships. He also made it clear that transfers would not be entertained, advising newly appointed candidates to focus on their roles and not seek transfers through any channels except in unavoidable circumstances. He encouraged them to serve the community with dedication, skill, and hard work, and also announced plans to release notifications for over 500 additional vacant posts soon.

Donpainon Thaosen, executive member for Education, extended his congratulations to the new appointees but expressed concerns over the state of education in the district. He revealed that 65 schools in Dima Hasao currently lack both teachers and students and emphasised the need to address this issue. Thaosen also discussed the disparity between the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teacher-student ratio of 1:25 and the Right to Education (RTE) mandate of 1:30 at the primary education level.

NCHAC chairman Mohet Hojai also congratulated the successful candidates, announcing that more appointment letters would be distributed after the Puja season. He urged the new appointees to work wholeheartedly for the betterment of the district and encouraged those who were not selected to prepare diligently for upcoming examinations. He emphasised the critical role these new employees will play in driving the district’s development.
