KOKRAJHAR, Oct 21: The ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has announced Nirmal Kumar Brahma as the official candidate backed by the NDA alliance for the upcoming bye-election for 31 No Sidli (ST) LAC, scheduled for November 13. Remarkably, Brahma is a former MCLA of the BTC, former treasurer of the UPPL, and currently serves as the president of the Chirang district committee, UPPL, as well as a noted social worker in the greater Chirang district. He was elected to the BTC Legislative Assembly in 2015 for five years and has held the position of Chirang district president of the party to date. The bye-election was necessitated in Sidli LAC following MLA Joyanta Basumatary’s resignation after being elected to the Lok Sabha in the elections held last June.
Addressing reporters at a press conference on Monday at the NDA Alliance Election Steering Committee Office in Kashikotra, Chirang, Raju Kumar Narzary, UPPL general secretary, announced the name of Nirmal Kumar Brahma as the UPPL candidate backed by the NDA alliance for the Sidli bye-election to be held on November 13. He stated that Nirmal Kumar Brahma’s nomination for the Sidli LAC bye-election, backed by the NDA alliance, has garnered widespread support across communities in the Sidli constituency. He said that people from all sections are coming forward to support Nirmal Kumar Brahma, the UPPL candidate backed by the NDA alliance.
Notably, the AGP party announced Deeptimoyee Choudhury as its candidate, backed by the NDA alliance, for the Bongaigaon LAC bye-election. The Bongaigaon LAC bye-election became necessary following MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury’s resignation after being elected to Parliament in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Both the UPPL and AGP candidates, backed by the NDA alliance for Sidli and Bongaigaon LACs, will file their nominations on October 24 amidst a large crowd to contest the bye-elections.
Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and UPPL president, extended his congratulations to Nirmal Kumar Brahma, the UPPL candidate backed by the NDA alliance, on his nomination. He expressed confidence that the NDA alliance (UPPL, BJP, and AGP) candidate would win the bye-election by a large margin, as people from all communities are coming forward to support the UPPL candidate. He also highlighted the NDA alliance government in BTR and the Assam government’s dedication to serving the welfare and development of the common masses since taking office, achieving significant sustainable development across the region. He affirmed that the BTR and Assam governments are fully committed to working for the all-round development of the citizens.

I am confident that the people of Sidli will shower their blessings upon him and give a resounding mandate in favour of our alliance at the polls. My best wishes for a stellar victory ahead,” Boro added.
Assam cabinet minister and UPPL founding president, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, also congratulated Nirmal Kumar Brahma on being nominated for the Sidli LAC bye-election. He said that NDA alliance-backed candidates, including those in Sidli LAC, are expected to secure victories in their respective constituencies in the upcoming assembly bye-elections. He noted that the people of the state are eager to vote in favour of NDA alliance candidates, as the government is committed to working for the overall development of the common masses. During the candidate announcement program, Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary, Chirang district BJP leaders, AGP leaders, and NDA alliance election steering committee office bearers were present.
Meanwhile, UPPL leaders and NDA alliance partners warmly welcomed and felicitated Nirmal Kumar Brahma, the UPPL candidate backed by the NDA alliance, with bouquets, traditional Aronai, and Phulam Gamocha at the election steering committee office in Kashikotra. Various social organisations and citizens also extended their warm wishes to Brahma, hoping for his victory in the bye-election by a significant margin.
