HOJAI, Oct 21: A delegation of Asom Nagorik Moncha, led by Bijoy Chakraborty, general secretary of ANM, forwarded a memorandum to Amit Shah, minister of Home Affairs, government of India, and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, chief minister of Assam, through the district commissioner of Hojai on Monday. In the four-page memorandum, ANM detailed their concerns regarding the recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sarmah Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, as well as the role of the Assam government.
In the memorandum, ANM appealed to the government of India, emphasising that for the sake of national unity and integrity, the “anti-constitutional” report of the Biplab Kumar Sharma Committee on Clause 6 should not be accepted. They urged the government of Assam to disregard the report, which they claim is against the spirit of the historical Assam Accord.
ANM requested that the government of India instruct the Assam government to convene a round-table conference with all political parties in Assam, including national organisations such as the Bengali community and Asom Nagorik Moncha, to discuss the report by Justice (Retd) BK Sharma on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord before making any decisions regarding its implementation.
