On Sunday, Borgoyary submitted his resignation letter to BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, citing personal reasons. He also expressed his long association with the party, having served it for two decades.

“After an incredible journey of 20 years, I have decided to step down from my position in the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). This decision was not an easy one, as these two decades have been filled with countless memories, valuable learning experiences, and the opportunity to serve the people alongside dedicated colleagues,” Borgoyary said.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Hagrama Mohilary, President of BPF, as well as all the leaders, members, and supporters of BPF who have stood by me throughout this journey. Your unwavering support and trust have meant the world to me, and I will always cherish the bonds we have built over the years. This resignation does not change my commitment to the people and the values I believe in. I will continue to work towards the progress and well-being of our society in new and meaningful ways. I wish my former colleagues continued success in their endeavors. Let’s keep striving together for a better future,” he continued.

Notably, Borgoyary represented the 14 No. Chirang Duar constituency of the Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) for three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2020, before facing defeat in the 2020 BTC elections. He served as deputy chief in the BTC government under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary and held various departmental responsibilities, including Forest, Tourism, and Education.

Borgoyary also contested the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in the Kokrajhar constituency on the BPF ticket but suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of UPPL candidate Joyanta Basumatary. At the time of his resignation, Borgoyary held the position of vice president and spokesperson for the BPF.
