NFR recovers contraband items worth more than Rs 8.12 crore

GUWAHATI, Feb 11: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has recovered contraband goods worth more than Rs 8.12 crore during the period from of January 1 to 31.

 RPF also apprehended 19 persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband/smuggled goods during this period. Moreover, RPF of N F Railway has been regularly conducting drives to control the menace of touts. In recently conducted checks and drives over the zone from January 1 to 31, RPF apprehended 15 touts and recovered 130 railway tickets worth above Rs 3.02 lakh from them.

In a recent incident on January 23 RPF & Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Guwahati jointly conducted checking in train No 12068 DN (Jan Shatabdi Express) at Guwahati railway station. During checking, they apprehended one lady and recovered 360 gms Heroin worth Rs 72 lakh (approx.) from the train. Later, the apprehended lady along with the recovered Heroin was handed over to NCB/Guwahati for necessary legal action.

Moreover, in an incident on January 7 RPF team of Siliguri and CIB team of New Jalpaiguri jointly conducted a raid & search operation in a shop named, Maa Shakti Travels located at Darjeeling, (West Bengal). During the raid, the team recovered 09 live E-Tickets and 13 used E-Tickets worth around Rs. 55,779/- and apprehended one tout in this connection. A case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act for further course of action.
