DONGKAMUKAM, May 21: The Kopili River is rising steadily following continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days in West Karbi Anglong District. In response, authorities have issued a red alert for West Karbi Anglong as well as several districts in middle Assam, including Hojai, Nagaon, and Morigaon.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Hamren WKA, has also confirmed the release of water from the Khandong Dam at the Kopili Hydro Power Station in Dima Hasao district. Seven gates of the dam have been opened to manage the rising water levels, a move necessitated by the heavy downpour in Dima Hasao and the neighboring state of Meghalaya.
Authorities have advised residents to move to safer locations with their essential belongings as precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Relief Camp Site Inspection officers conducted a whirlwind visit this afternoon to assess the flood-affected areas under the Dongkamukam Revenue Circle in West Karbi Anglong.
Citizens are urged to stay alert, follow official instructions, and prioritize their safety during this critical period.
