SIVASAGAR, June 4: In a remarkable show of intergenerational collaboration, fifty students from Sibsagar University have joined hands with the Sivasagar Senior Citizens Association in a city-wide campaign to raise awareness on environmental conservation and civic responsibility.
Responding to a call from the Association, the students gathered at the Senior Citizens Building on Fuleswari School Road on Monday, where they were briefed by Association Secretary Biman Sensuwa Baruah on their crucial role in the initiative.
As part of the World Environment Day observance on June 5, the students will visit households across Sivasagar, distributing informative request letters prepared by the Association. These letters outline the duties of citizens in maintaining environmental cleanliness and sustainability.
In addition to door-to-door outreach, the students will: Use microphones to broadcast awareness messages across city streets, monitor and discourage the use of plastic bags in the marketplace and educate the public on the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits.
The preparatory meeting for the campaign was chaired by Kartik Chandra Dutta, with several distinguished members of the Association in attendance, including Dilip Saikia, Deben Barua, Yogesh Chandra Rajkhowa, Ramen Barpatragohain, Guna Gogoi, Shadikur Rahman, Keshav Barua, Dr. Tridib Mohanty, Kalyani Barua, Akash Dey, Dr. Gayatri Devi Barua, Barnika Buragohain, and Gitartha Dutta. They collectively extended their encouragement and support to the participating students.
This initiative stands as a noteworthy example of civic engagement and shared responsibility between senior citizens and youth, setting a powerful precedent for environmental stewardship in the region.
