TEZPUR, June 12: The Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences at Tezpur University successfully hosted an international webinar titled “Universality of Yoga for Health and Progress”, drawing participation from eminent speakers and scholars across the globe to reflect on the transformative impact of yoga on holistic well-being.
The event commenced with an inaugural address by the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Prof Singh emphasised the integral role of yoga within the various knowledge systems of Bharat.
He highlighted yoga not merely as a form of physical activity, but as a complete lifestyle that fosters mental, spiritual, and social harmony.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Ishwar Bhardwaj from Dev Sanskriti University and former Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science & Health at Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar.
Prof Bhardwaj elaborated on yoga’s holistic potential in addressing the root causes of human suffering, underlining the discipline’s contribution to enhancing self-awareness and comprehensive well-being.
Prof Robin Dutta, chairperson of the Organizing Committee, welcomed the participants and stressed the relevance of the webinar’s theme, which resonates with the theme of International Yoga Day 2025: “Yoga for One World, One Health.”
Prof Papori Baruah, Head of the Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, noted that one of the seminar’s key highlights was the presentation of 16 research papers submitted by various institutions from across the country.
These papers examined the multidimensional applications of yoga in improving physical, mental, and spiritual health.
The webinar featured participation from speakers and academicians based in India and abroad, including representatives from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, and the USA.
Experts from institutions such as the University of Delhi, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Patanjali University, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, and Lakshmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education contributed to the discussions.
The event reaffirmed yoga’s universal relevance and its growing significance in the pursuit of a healthier and more balanced world.
