His appointment was formalised during the annual general meeting (AGM) of the federation held in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, the AGM also saw the formation of a new executive body for the 2025–2029 term.

Among those elected to key positions were S Mittal as President and Umkar Singh as General Secretary of the federation.

Adv Puto Bui, General Secretary of the Kho Kho Association of Arunachal Pradesh (KKAAP), was elected as an Executive Member of the Kho Kho Federation of India for the new term.

Er Taba Tedir, who currently serves as the President of both the Kho Kho Association of Arunachal Pradesh and the Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA), was present at the AGM alongside two other delegates from the state—Adv Puto Bui and KKAAP Joint Secretary Suraj Raja.

Bui also serves as the Chairman of the North East Kho Kho Association.

The selection of two key representatives from Arunachal Pradesh to significant roles in the national federation was hailed as a notable development for the growth of indigenous sports in the region.

In its statement, the federation acknowledged the increasing contribution of the state towards the promotion of kho kho, one of India’s oldest and most popular traditional games.

In recent years, the Kho Kho Federation of India has significantly stepped up efforts to globalise the sport.

Notably, it hosted its first-ever World Cup in January 2025, following the successful organisation of the Asian Kho Kho Championship in 2023.

Arunachal Pradesh, under the leadership of Er. Tedir, has taken significant strides to promote kho kho at the grassroots level.

The state association has actively introduced the sport in schools and recently concluded the Arunachal Pradesh State Games, where kho kho was played across educational institutions throughout the state.

Officials noted that these initiatives have not only rekindled interest in traditional Indian sports but also laid a foundation for nurturing homegrown talent capable of competing on national and international platforms.

With the inclusion of senior state representatives in the national federation’s executive body, stakeholders believe the sport is set to witness further growth in Arunachal Pradesh and the entire North East region.
