DIPHU, Aug 12: The staff of the office of the Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO), Diphu Circle and youths of Manja on Thursday had heated arguments at the ARO office here over release of land compensation.
The youths alleged that the Mandals and Supervisor Kanungo (SK)s have not released full compensation to those who have lost their land and at the same time some Mandals have acquired land along the 4 lane road of NH 36 that is being constructed. The two parties have lodged an FIR against each other at Diphu police station.
Mandal, Bijoy Kro, who was there on Thursday, said that two youths Thong Teron and Waisong Teron had entered the computer room of the ARO office around 5 pm. The two youths charged at the staff and started hitting on a table. The youths attempted to throw the computers.
Kro also stated that the youths were asking for Rs 1.5 crore from them saying, “We should have asked for more, but we are only demanding Rs 1.5 crore.”
Kro also said the staff of the ARO office tried to settle the matter, but the youths became more aggressive, which compelled them to call the police. The youths were taken to Diphu police station. The staff of the ARO office also reached Diphu police station to lodge an FIR against the youths.
At Diphu police station the youths told media persons that there are 11 names including Mandal Tarun Rongpi of ARO, Diphu, who are involved in purchasing land on the 4-lane stretch of NH-36.
Thong Teron alleged that Mandal Tarun Rongpi had purchased 11 plots of land under Section No 6 and also acquired the land of those who have land along the NH 36.
“The land he acquired is of those who were to get compensation for their land from National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). On the pretext of preparing pattas he lured the land owners and without informing them the Mandal, Tarun Rongpi instead acquired their land. He has also purchased land in his daughter’s name,” Teron said.
Another youth Waisong Teron said, “The staff of ARO office has called us to discuss the matter regarding the alleged acquisition of land by some of the staff of ARO office including Mandals. Accordingly, we went to the office, but on entering the room the staff shut the door from inside.”
Teron also alleged that instead of discussing the issue the staff of the ARO office started assaulting them.
“If a land owner is supposed to get Rs 1 crore as compensation, the Mandals only give Rs 60 lakh or Rs 65 lakh. Without taking the concern of the land owners, Mandals used to make pattas in their own name.”
“The staff asked us to stop with our complaint. They threatened us. Tarun Rongpi pre-planned to murder as he locked the door from inside. The Mandals inside have assaulted us. They promised us Rs. 1.5 crores and not that we have demanded. Until all land owners are compensated we will not stop,” Teron said.
Contrary, Mandal Tarun Rongpi said, “Waisong and Thong used to come to the ARO office to complain about not giving proper compensation to land owners. They were demanding Rs 1.5 crore from us. Today they again came to our office and charged at us.”
On land purchases as alleged by Waisong the Mandal Rongpi said, “If I really acquired land from the land owners then show me the land owners. Just bringing an allegation is not enough, there should be proof.”
The youths have asked for Rs 1.5 crore from Mandals and SKs. “We have shut the door from inside to prevent them from running away before the police arrive.”
