NAGAON, Oct 30: In a major crackdown on the Bir Lachit Sena, Nagaon police arrested five leaders and members of the outfit in two separate operations carried out on Wednesday night.
According to police sources, the Nagaon Sadar police apprehended Kamar Nazman, Vice-President of the Nagaon District Committee, and Trailokya Saikia, Secretary of the same committee.

Nazman is a resident of Faujdaripatty in Nagaon town, while Saikia hails from Morikolong Borghat.
In a separate operation, Samaguri police arrested three others — Dipjyoti Phukan, President of the Kaliabor Anchalik Committee, along with members Pranjal Das and Rupti Borah.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
The arrests were made following complaints of extortion and other alleged activities by members of the Bir Lachit Sena.
Police sources said the accused had reportedly demanded money from a cattle trader in Rangagarha area of Samaguri a few days ago.
The action follows chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent directive for strict measures against the Bir Lachit Sena, which has come under increased scrutiny for its alleged involvement in unlawful activities. Police said more arrests are likely as investigation continues.
