BOKAJAN, Nov 1: During routine naka checking at Dillai Police Station on Friday at around 4 PM, police detained a truck (registration No NL 01 AG 2554) along with its driver and helper on suspicion of carrying narcotics.
A search of the vehicle in the presence of independent witnesses and SDPO Bokajan recovered six transparent polythene packets containing muddy-colored substances suspected to be morphine, weighing a total of 2.99 kg, concealed in a secret chamber above the driver’s seat. Field testing with a drug detection kit confirmed the presence of morphine.

The substances were seized, and the driver, Akram Hussain Chowdhury, 28, of Assadar Ali Chowdhury, Dudhpur, PS Borkhola, Cachar and the helper, Siva Deka of Gangadhar Deka, Bilpar, PS Tamulpur, BTR were apprehended. A case will be registered against them. In a related incident, a Max Pick-up vehicle (AS01C 6664) met with an accident at Umswai, West Karbi Anglong, when the driver lost control. Three persons – Mani Amsong, Kulbari Mala and Siluni Amsong – died, while 15 passengers sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Primary Health Centre.
