Addressing the media persons at UPPL’s central office on Wednesday, Afjal Hoque Sarkar, vice president of the UPPL and former MCLA said that the Chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary blamed the UPPL and the ABSU on the rampage of BTC Assembly by agitated students on November 29 last, was a baseless allegation. He said the ABSU, being the largest democratic student organisation of the Bodos had been playing a key role to protect the community from all critical situations and problems as they have unit committees in all universities and colleges.

He has rejected the charge of Mohilary who said both the ABSU and the UPPL were just two sides of a same coin and said many EMs and MCLAs of BPF led council government came from the ABSU platform. The students of Bodoland University and various colleges joined the rally of the tribal students on November 29 last to oppose the move to granting ST status to six communities and there was no instigation of the ABSU and the UPPL as alleged by Mohilary as the agitation of students was taking place spontaneously in every college by their own initiative with the emotion and sentiment.

Sarkar said after the BPF led BTC government came to power, the unending Melas with gambling had been being organised everywhere which was totally stopped in the last five years led by Pramod Boro. He said Pramod Boro led council government established a congenial atmosphere to the people of the region to live in peace with dignity and honour, violence was stopped totally to ensure security to every citizen. He also called upon the BPF led BTC government to ensure peace and stability in the society instead of aggravating the situation by blaming others.
