TINSUKIA, Dec 15: As part of the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme, a bicycle distribution programme was held on Monday at Ledo Bazaar High School, Ledo Sankardev Vidyapith High School and Margherita Public Higher Secondary School under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency.
A total of 374 bicycles were distributed among Class IX students with the objective of easing their daily commute to school and encouraging regular attendance.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and local representatives.
The bicycles were distributed in the presence of Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, who underscored the state government’s commitment to improving access to education, particularly for students from remote and semi-urban areas.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said the cycle distribution initiative would be extended to students of all higher secondary schools across the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at providing safe and convenient transportation for students, thereby helping to reduce dropout rates and ensure continuity in education.
Teachers, students and staff of the participating schools welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely and impactful measure that would significantly benefit students in their academic journey.
Among those present at the programme were Ranajyoti Neog, president of the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association; Dheeraj Sonowal, treasurer of the Tinsukia District BJP; Margherita Municipal Board chairman Anand Kumar Sharma; Satya Ranjan Kakoty; and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools.
