NAGAON, Jan 6: Marking the birth month of Melvin Jones, founder and guiding figure of the Lions Club International, the Nagaon Lions Club on Tuesday organised a meal distribution programme for the poor and destitute in the town.
As part of the initiative, club members distributed one meal, a packet of sweets and a bottle of drinking water to several needy people in front of Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple, Jagannath Temple and Gurusthan in Nagaon.
The programme was organised in remembrance of Melvin Jones, a social thinker dedicated to the upliftment of people irrespective of religion and caste.
Several members of the Nagaon Lions Club, including president Jiten Agarwala, secretary Maharshi Vishal Bordoloi, treasurer Madan Saha, marketing chairman Bishwajit Mahanta, and members Bakul Bora, Gurucharan Singh, Jugal Agarwal, Ranjit Tamuly Phukan, Hemanta Bordoloi and others were present during the distribution programme.
