Rs 5,000 cheques distributed to 4,204 tea garden workers in Tinsukia

TINSAUKIA, Jan 28: As part of the Assam government’s welfare initiative for the tea community, Rs 5,000 one-time financial assistance cheques under the Chief Minister’s scheme “Mukhya Mantri Eti Koli Duti Paat” were distributed on Wednesday to 4,204 tea garden workers across three estates in the 83rd Margherita Assembly constituency.

The beneficiaries included 1,584 workers from Dirok Tea Estate, 1,174 from Ledo Tea Estate and 1,446 from Dehing Tea Estate. Earlier, on January 25, 3,752 workers of Namdang and Margherita Tea Estates had received the cheques.

The scheme aims to provide economic support and strengthen social security for tea garden workers who have contributed to Assam’s tea industry for nearly two centuries. The distribution event was attended by Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, local officials, BJP leaders and representatives from Gaon Panchayats.
