Gangotri Goswami Memorial Award presented in Tezpur

TEZPUR, Sept 11: The ‘Gangotri Goswami Memorial Award’ conferred every year in memory of late Gangotri Goswami of Tezpur on one who is brilliant and from economically poor background was conferred on Himadri Baruah of Sootea area at a function organised at Basantipur Gangotri memorial Hall here on Saturday evening.
It is pertinent to mention here that Late Gangotri Goswami was a student with versatile quality who left for her heavenly abode in a road accident on December 16, 2015. It is worth mentioning here that since her student life, besides her good academic track, she could equally be able to present splendid performance in several state and national level quiz, oration, debate, song and dance and art competitions bringing laurels to the region.
However, in memory of the talented girl, the family members have been presenting the award on her birthday every year since 2016. Attending the soulful event as chief guest, Khargeswar Barkakati observed that the award instituted in memory of such a brilliant student would not only keep her memory alive rather it would help one economically poor student in continuing his or her study with a social responsibility. Barkakati urged the students to lead their life with the ideology of such a student.
Commemorating the late brilliant student another speaker, Dr. Chandan Sarma from Tezpur University observed that at a time when women in our society are to some extents are still in an unprivileged condition, the initiative to give an award in memory of Gangotri by her family is a very adorable step. He urged the awardees not to remain confined in simply building their career only, rather to reflect their social responsibility working for the society thereby reflecting the significance of the award. He also urged the parents to give value education to their child instead of making them ‘super man’.
“We should encourage our children to be generous to others thereby building an equal social system in our ambiances.” Dr. Sarma maintained.
Receiving the award Himadri Baruah a student of Sootea HS School, said that the award instituted in memory of late Gongotri Goswami, who was like a piece of diamond, would always inspire one to emerge in keeping pace with the social responsibility.
In the programme, retired professor, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Goswami, noted social worker cum Assam Sahitya Sabha publicity convenor, Pankaj Baruah and Chilarai Award winning NCC cadet, Sukanya Kashyap Mahanta were also specially felicitated. Among others, the programme was attended by subject teacher of Sootea HS School, Purabi Hazarika and noted teacher, Baneswar Borah.
Earlier along with the guests, Gongotri’s parents Gokul Goswami and Momi Bhagabati Goswami, her youngest sister Bhoisali Goswami paid their rich tribute at the portrait of Gongotri Goswami.
The programme was meticulously conducted by a research student of the department of Physics, Tezpur University, Pohar Borah.
