JORHAT, Sept 12: Hemanta Nath, a farmer from Assam who had undergone mushroom cultivation training in Assam Agricultural University, received the Progressive Mushroom Grower Award from Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Directorate of Mushroom Research (ICAR – DMR), Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
An AAU official informed that the award was presented to Nath along with six other farmers across the country at a ceremony held at the National Mushroom Mela at Solan on September 10.
The official said that Nath, who is from Nalbari, had started mushroom cultivation after taking training at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra under AAU at Nalbari.
The official said that he was presented the award for his outstanding contribution to the mushroom farmers.
The official said that Nath who started the oyster mushroom cultivation in 2011 with production of 10 kg per day, is at present 150 kg oyster and 10 kg milky mushroom per day.
Nath has four growing and spawn production facilities in his farm, the official stated.
Nath, who employs eight women and four men, has designed a mushroom cylinder-making machine named Mushmake 0.1, the official informed.
He has also registered trademark brand 2019 Kath Fu for dried mushrooms.
Meanwhile, a three-day farmers’ training programme from September 7 to 9 on Mushroom Spawn Production was held at AAU, Jorhat main campus.
The official added that 17 mushroom farmers participated in the training programme organised under the farmer first programme, sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi in collaboration with All India Coordination Research Project.
Head of the Plant Pathology department, AAU, Palash Deb Nath said in the inaugural programme that the training was held to promote mushroom cultivation and augment farmers’ income.
