Attending the annual meeting of KLT and KMT at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall here on Monday, he said that discussions were on with the state government for recognition of KLTs and KMTs.

The KAAC under Karbi Language Development Board (KLDB) has established Karbi Medium Schools in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong for the development of Karbi language in 2008. In 2007 KLTs were appointed in government ME and high schools to teach Karbi language. There are 29 KMTs and 789 KLTs.

The salary per month for KMT is Rs 17, 000. The KLTs (provincialised) are getting Rs 15, 000 per month.

In the memorandum of KLT and KMT, the CEM said, “We are discussing with the state government for recognition of KLT and KMT. If the KLT and KMT get government recognition then their salaries will be at par with other teachers. They will also get to enjoy other benefits.
