The appointment letters were handed over by chief executive member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang in presence of executive member (EM), KAAC, Education Richard Tokbi and Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng.

It may be mentioned here that the KLDB has started setting-up 29 Karbi medium schools in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts from 2008. With todayā€™s appointment there are 58 KMTs. The following year KLTs were also appointed to teach Karbi subjects in primary, ME and high school levels.

In his welcome address, Tokbi said all together 50 teachers have been appointed by KLDB to teach in Karbi Medium schools as well as in primary section, adding, ā€œOut of this 29 candidates have been appointed as Karbi Medium Teachers and 21 candidates as Karbi Language Teachersā€.

ā€œI am very happy to appoint new teachers for Karbi medium schools and KLT for primary section. The appointment of KMTs and KLTs has been done by KLDB for the development and promotion of Karbi language. Our CEM Tuliram Ronghang sir has provided the much needed support for the development of Karbi language and for his positive approach I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to him,ā€ Tokbi added.

The EM further said that that the appointment has been made as per merit basis of the interview conducted in 2022.

The CEM while handing over the appointment letters to the candidates said as envisaged in para 4.11 of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, as wherever possible, the medium of instruction upto Class 5 should be with oneā€™s mother tongue.

ā€œKeeping this in mind the KAAC has appointed KMTs and KLTs so that at the foundation level children get to learn through their own mother tongue. The KAAC is making all efforts for the development of Karbi language,ā€ the CEM added.

He mentioned that initially the salary of KMTs was Rs 2, 400 but now it is increased to Rs 17000. While the KLTs teach Karbi subjects in primary, ME section and high school level their salary is now Rs 16000.
