TAWANG, Aug 13: A block-level training programme on Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0 and the localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held for Kyidphel Block in Tawang district at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Acccoprding to an official statement, the programme was organised by the State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR) in collaboration with the District Panchayati Raj Department, Tawang, and was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo, IAS.
It was attended by ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu, Assistant Director SIRD Mihin Lali, DPDO Tawang Sangey Wangmu Mosobi, Member Secretary PR Kitpi Tsering Chedon, ZPMs, and all PRI members of the block.
In her inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of PAI as a tool for planning, transparency, and performance assessment of Gram Panchayats.
She said the index fosters healthy competition among Panchayats, helping identify gaps and areas for improvement.
Noting that Tawang district ranks fifth in the state in Panchayat performance, she urged collective efforts to achieve higher rankings.
ZPC Leki Gombu called on officials to take such training seriously, as they are key to guiding current and future Panchayat members.
He thanked SIRD&PR and PRI members for their participation and encouraged them to make the most of the resource persons’ expertise.
Assistant Director Mihin Lali explained the objectives of PAI, highlighting its role in assessing advancement levels and bridging development gaps through accurate data collection.
DPDO Sangey Wangmu Mosobi emphasised the need for authentic and accurate data submission to ensure fair and reliable records of Panchayat performance.
According to the statement, the training sought to enhance Panchayat performance, align local governance with SDG themes, and promote inclusive, participatory rural development in the region.
