TORU, Jan 17: The Mepsoro Village Welfare Society (MVWS) organised an environmental awareness programme and community get-together at Teri Suryee in Mepsoro village, Toru, with an emphasis on environmental conservation and collective responsibility for protecting natural resources.
The programme was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek and scientist RK Taj, who addressed the gathering and underlined the need for sustainable practices, conservation of natural resources and active community participation in environmental preservation.
During the awareness sessions, speakers highlighted key environmental challenges including climate change, soil erosion, river pollution and deforestation.
Stress was also laid on the protection of wildlife and aquatic life. Informative displays and interactive discussions were organised to sensitise villagers, particularly the youth, about the long-term impact of environmental degradation and the importance of conservation measures.
The programme saw active participation from villagers and local community leaders.
It was organised under the supervision of Chukhu Naka, GPM, Mepsoro, with Taba Rama, Chairman, and Ngurang Paul, Secretary, coordinating the event on behalf of the Mepsoro Village Welfare Society.
The programme concluded with a collective call for sustained, community-led initiatives to safeguard the local environment and ensure the responsible use of natural resources for future generations.
