Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in Namsai

NAMSAI, Oct 3: The 156th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Gandhi Jayanti, was observed at Gandhi Chowk in Namsai Market, with officials and community members paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

The event was attended by Nang Koliani Namchoom, ADC Namsai, EAC Sarah E. Borang, and heads of various government departments.

The celebrations began with a soulful rendition of the “Ram Dhun” by students of GHSS, Namsai, followed by a Sarva Dharam Prarthana led by religious leaders, symbolising unity, peace and harmony among diverse communities.

In her address, EAC Sarah E Borang highlighted the significance of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a clean and attractive tourist destination.

She noted that with the state’s economy heavily dependent on tourism, maintaining cleanliness is both a civic duty and a collective responsibility for sustainable development.

She urged citizens to actively participate in keeping public spaces, facilities and surroundings tidy, thereby realising Gandhiji’s vision of a clean and self-reliant nation.

During the event, uniforms and kits were presented to sanitary workers in recognition of their dedicated service to the community.

The gathering reflected Gandhiji’s principles of cleanliness, simplicity, and communal unity, reinforcing the message of civic responsibility and social harmony.
