NIRJULI, 25 June: In a bid to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment, Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Gabriel D Wangsu, urged recently trained youth to become entrepreneurs and job providers rather than remain dependent on government jobs for years.
The appeal was made during the valedictory ceremony of the fifth and final batch of trainees under the “Catch Them Young” skill training programme, held at the Directorate office in Nirjuli.
The official statement from the department highlighted the significance of the programme, a flagship initiative designed to equip educated unemployed youth and farmers with technical know-how in livestock and poultry husbandry. The training, which began on 13 March 2025, saw the participation of 150 youth from across all districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Minister Wangsu, addressing the trainees and officials, encouraged them to convert the technical knowledge and skills they acquired into viable livestock ventures.
“Use this training practically and with dedication, so that the time and resources invested by the department do not go in vain,” he said.
He assured the participants that the government is committed to supporting those who wish to start their own livestock-based enterprises and that financial assistance and handholding would be provided.
The minister further added that with the backing of Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s government, various sectors including youth empowerment are receiving focused attention.
“This programme provides a new pathway for self-employment, economic sustainability and dignity in society,” he stated.
A total of 150 youth were trained in the five batches: 80 in pig husbandry, 30 in poultry, 28 in dairy, and 12 in goat husbandry.
The programme aimed to blend traditional practices with scientific methods to ensure sustainable and profitable livestock enterprises.
Secretary of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Hage Tari, who was present as guest of honour, encouraged the youth to adopt a results-driven mindset.
“Talk less, work more—this is the key to becoming a successful entrepreneur in today’s competitive world,” he said, reinforcing the importance of diligence and innovation.
Also attending the event were senior officials of the department, including the Director of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, and other key personnel who played instrumental roles in the implementation of the programme.
As part of the closing ceremony, certificates of completion were distributed to all the participants.
Select trainees were also awarded special certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment during the training.
The department, through this initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to empowering rural youth by enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic development and livestock sector.
