Namsai holds orientation meeting to strengthen tourist accommodation safety

NAMSAI, 26 June: In a bid to bolster the safety and security framework within the tourism sector, the Department of Tourism, Namsai District convened a key orientation meeting on Thursday at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall.

The event brought together stakeholders from across the district, including representatives of local accommodation facilities, the district administration, and the police department.

According to an official statement, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner C R Khampa and focused on implementing comprehensive safety measures across all accommodation facilities in the district.

A wide range of topics was addressed, from CCTV surveillance and emergency response systems to fire safety protocols, staff preparedness, and the overall well-being of guests.

Deputy Commissioner Khampa underscored the importance of maintaining high standards in hospitality, not only in terms of physical safety but also environmental responsibility.

He urged all facilities to ensure cleanliness, practise waste segregation at source, and work towards reducing plastic usage.

Khampa also briefed participants on upcoming tourism development initiatives in the district, including the Borbeel Project, Noi Dhamma, and the Mahabodhi Skill Development Centre at Nongtaw.

Encouraging innovation in guest engagement, he suggested that accommodation providers incorporate adventure activities such as cycling to boost the district’s appeal to both domestic and international tourists.

Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley addressed the gathering, stressing the need for strict compliance with government-issued guidelines and regulations.

He called upon all facilities to maintain accurate and up-to-date guest records and informed attendees that a hands-on training programme on the IVFRT (Immigration, Visa, Foreigners Registration and Tracking) system would soon be conducted for all homestay operators.

In-charge District Tourism Officer, Dr Keshab Sarmah, highlighted the significance of taking proactive steps to prevent untoward incidents and ensure swift response in emergencies.

He also provided an overview of various government schemes such as DDSUY and UNNATI, designed to support tourism-related ventures and promote sustainable tourism in the region.

Representatives of local accommodation facilities expressed their commitment to implementing the discussed measures and affirmed their willingness to cooperate closely with government authorities.

They pledged to enhance safety protocols and improve the overall visitor experience in line with the district’s growing tourism profile.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to prioritise guest safety, uphold high hospitality standards, and contribute positively to the development of Namsai as a secure and welcoming tourist destination.
