Siang district reviews water conservation and protection measures under Jal Jeevan Mission

BOLENG, Dec 23: A meeting of the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), Siang District was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Tayi Taggu, Deputy Commissioner, Siang District. The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) 2.0 and discussing legal and administrative measures for the protection of rural drinking water supply infrastructure under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

During the meeting, participants deliberated on community-led water conservation initiatives, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge activities. The preparation of district work plans for the financial year 2025–26 and reporting of works through the JSJB portal were also discussed. Special emphasis was laid on safeguarding drinking water sources and infrastructure, including intake points, pipelines, reservoirs and treatment plants.

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of declaring drinking water sources as Protected Drinking Water Zones and strengthening enforcement to prevent contamination, vandalism and illegal activities. He also stressed enhancing community participation through Pani Samitis and Village Water & Sanitation Committees to ensure sustainable water management.

The meeting was attended by members of the District Executive Committee and officers from the concerned line departments.
