Two drug peddlers held with suspected heroin at Banderdewa market

BANDERDEWA, Oct 10: Acting on specific information, police from Banderdewa Police Station apprehended two persons late Thursday night for allegedly possessing and transporting narcotic drugs suspected to be heroin.

At around 10:40 pm, the police received reliable input that some individuals were in possession of narcotics at the Banderdewa market area.

Acting promptly, a trap was laid and a team comprising Inspector Kipa Hamak, SI Koj Tada, Head Constable Tade Bomdom, Constable Rinchin Tsering, and Constable Udipta Gogoi proceeded to the location under the close supervision of Dr Nyelam Nega, SP Naharlagun.

The suspects were subsequently intercepted and apprehended from the market area.

The arrested individuals were identified as Samir Ali, aged 21, son of Abdul Rafik, resident of Sonapur No 1, Bangalmara, under Bihpuria Police Station, Lakhimpur district of Assam, and Saddam Hussain, aged 30, son of Atabur Rahman, resident of Chatian near Birat Bazar, under Juria Police Station, Nagaon district of Assam.

During the operation, police recovered four soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 50.03 grams from their possession.

The contraband was seized on the spot in the presence of witnesses.

Accordingly, a case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station vide Case No 70/25 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the narcotics and identify the forward and backward linkages of the network involved in the illegal trade.

Police officials stated that this operation marks a continuing effort to curb drug trafficking activities in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance against the menace of narcotics.
