NEW DELHI, Oct 28: The soil-filled urns from Assam for the construction of Amrit Vatika reached New Delhi’s railway station on Saturday afternoon via the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express.
A total of 270 urns were collected from 26,098 villages and towns in Assam over the past five weeks. The participants, volunteers, and officials were warmly received by minister for Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah, resident commissioner of Assam Bhawan MS Manivannan, secretary of Cultural Affairs Monidipa Borkataky, and other officials at the railway station.
The event was marked by a festive atmosphere with Bihu dance performances, chants of “Bharat Maata Ki Jai” and “Jai Aai Asom,” and the showering of rose and marigold petals on the participants. People from Assam living in Delhi-NCR and representatives of 17 associations, including Assam Association, Asom Sahitya Sabha, Assam Science Society, Uruli, and Samannay, participated in the event.
As part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ (MMMD) campaign, the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ carrying soil in 7,500 urns from various parts of the country is expected to reach the national capital between October 28 and 30 to mark the culmination of the campaign.
The soil collected from different regions will be used to build an Amrit Vatika in honor of the martyrs and bravehearts at Kartavya Path near the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The two-day function for the construction is scheduled to be held on October 30 and 31.
The Amrit Kalash Yatra commenced in Assam on September 20 and continued until October 26, covering every village and municipal ward, with significant public participation. Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, flagged off the Rajdhani Express carrying the urns from Guwahati Railway Station early Friday morning.
