GUWAHATI, Oct 27: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off a Rajdhani Express train carrying 270 urns filled with soil from different parts of Assam. These urns are set to reach the national capital, New Delhi, on Saturday. A total of 540 urns were collected as part of the initiative. An equal number of urns are stored at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, which will be used in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the proposed largest university of the state in Gohpur.

Approximately 285 people, including officials, are accompanying the urns on the Rajdhani Express. Minister for Cultural Affairs, Bimal Borah, and senior officials will receive the urns and those accompanying them at the New Delhi Railway Station. Six coaches on the train have been adorned with banners of the Amrit Kalash Yatra.

Plans are in place for a colorful cultural procession with soil from all 35 districts of Assam to be taken to a location near the National War Memorial, where an Amrit Vatika (Garden of Nectar) will be developed. This garden will serve as a shared heritage with soil and saplings from all corners of the country.

To ensure the smooth execution of the program, senior officials of the Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Assam, held a meeting with representatives of various Assam-based organizations in Delhi-NCR. They discussed various aspects of the event and set up pick-up points for people residing in Delhi-NCR.

The “Amrit Kalash Yatra” is part of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” (MMMD) campaign, carrying soil in 7,500 urns from every corner of the country. It is expected to reach the national capital from October 28 to 30 to mark the culmination of the campaign. The soil from across the nation will be used to create the Amrit Vatika in honor of the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The Amrit Kalash Yatra commenced in Assam on September 20 and continued until October 26, with people from all over the state participating in the campaign. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also participated in a program in Guwahati in October, encouraging the people to make the campaign a success.
An official from the State Cultural Affairs Department said that youth, volunteers and citizens from all corners of the state collected soil samples from villages and municipal wards. “Soil was collected from all parts of the state and the 270 urns are being carried to the national capital,” the official said.
