27th Sivasagar Sanmilita Rongali Bihu Sanmilan begins

SIVASAGAR, May 3: The 27th Sivasagar Sammilit Rongali Bihu Sammelan began at the Boarding Field in Sivasagar on Friday.

The programme commenced with a felicitation programme of 27 elderly persons of repute after a ceremonial hoisting of the ‘Bihuwan’ by celebration committee president, Prabuddha Pd Chetia and ‘Smriti Tarpan’ by executive president, Buddheswar Chutia.

Debajyoti Gogoi inaugurated the Hussori competition, where students from 20 schools will be participating. The programme also included a quiz competition on the folk culture of the state, drawing competition, competition on Mou-Kuwari, Saru Bihuwati, Bar Bihuwati and Jeng Bihu competition. Cash prize worth Rs. 3,50,000 will be distributed among winners of the various competitions.

The award giving ceremony, which will be held on May 5, will be attended by Sivasagar district commissioner Aditya Bikram Yadav as the chief guest and Sivasagar superintendent of police, Shubrajyoti Bora and ONGC Assam’s Asset executive director Rajesh Tiwari as the distinguished guests.  The souvenir, Barhamthuri will also be released.

Jayant Barua, editor of the Asomiya Pratidin will inaugurate the cultural programme in the evening.  Pride of Assam Ranjit Gogoi and his team will perform hussori and popular singer Jitul Sonwal will be the chief attraction of the cultural extravaganza.
