DIPHU, April 5: The filing of nomination papers for the 6 Diphu (ST) Parliamentary Constituency for the second phase of elections in Assam, scheduled for April 26, concluded on April 4.
A total of six candidates have officially entered the electoral fray by submitting their nomination papers.
The candidates who filed their nomination papers include Joyram Engleng from the Indian National Congress (INC), Amarsing Tisso from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jotson Bey from the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), John Bernard Sangma from the Gana Suraksha Party, and two independent candidates backed by the APHLC, JI Kathar and Bikram Hanse.
The scrutiny of nomination papers took place today at the District Commissioner’s office in the presence of central observers.
Jaydip Mukhopadhay, IAS, served as the general observer, Shankar Lal Verma, IRS, as the expenditure observer, and T Uniel Kichu Ao, IPS, as the police observer.
District Election Officer and representatives from various political parties ensured a transparent and thorough examination of all submitted documents, maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
With the scrutiny process now concluded, the stage is set for the next phase of the electoral journey. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature has been set for April 8. Following this, the remaining candidates will proceed to vigorously compete in the forthcoming election.
