Advance application facility for youths attaining 17 years; 4 new qualifying dates announced

TEZPUR, Aug 1: Along with the rest of the country, pre-revision works ahead of the special summary revision of electoral rolls will begin in Sonitpur district from August 4, 2022. The integrated draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 9, 2022 and the period for filing claims and objections will be between November 9, 2022 and December 8, 2022. The final electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2023, informed deputy commissioner and district election officer Deba Kumar Mishra at a press meet held in Tezpur recently.
The DEO also informed that the ECI after bringing in certain legal amendments has now approved of four qualifying dates, i.e. January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 and that anyone attaining 17 years of age can now apply in advance for enrollment and they need not wait to attain 18 years on January 1 of a year, as was the case previously. He also informed that registration forms have been made more user-friendly and simpler and the newly modified forms will come into force from August 1, 2022. Form 6 will be used for new voter registration, Form 8 for correction of details, Form 7 for deletion of name and Form 6B for linking Voter ID with Aadhar Card, though it has not been made mandatory.
Interested citizens can now fill up forms through the Voter Helpline App and www.nsvp.in or through their local booth level officer.
ADC and i/c election officer Raj Boruah, and other senior officials of the district administration were present at the press meet.
Meanwhile, addressing the press meet deputy commissioner informed the media about the ‘District Day’ celebrations to be held on August 3, 2022, since Sonitpur district was formed out of erstwhile Darrang district on August 3, 1983. To commemorate this event, the Sonitpur district administration will observe the day with a day-long programme. The day-long programme will begin with a cycle rally followed by a plantation programme and other events including open session and cultural programme. The deputy commissioner also spoke on various upcoming government schemes and many important events.
