BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 9: A delegation from Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) headed by Durga Khatiwora, president met Education minister Ranoj Pegu at Secretariat on Tuesday to have a discussion on various issues. ANSS has been constantly pressuring the government since 2013 to include the Nepali subject in SET by SLET Commission, north-east region, while scant regard is being given to this long-standing issue.
“It is worth mentioning that the Nepali language is included in 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution since 1992 but this language has not received its due recognition in comparison to those which are in the same schedule,” says Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, the working president of the largest literary organisation of India duly recognised by Sahitya Academy.
Many posts of assistant professor for Nepali subject in colleges of Assam are vacant owing to the superannuation of teachers working in these posts but the candidates with good result in MA in Nepali are still not getting a way to apply for the vacant position due to non-clearing of NET/SET.
Madan Thapa, who was inducted as general secretary of the organisation in fourth central executive meeting of ANSS held at DRDA guest house, Kohora said that the Education minister was appraised in details about the long standing issues of ANSS and after threadbare discussion with the delegates and the respective officials, minister Ranoj Pegu assured of inclusion of Nepali subject in SET by SLET Commission of NE region from 2023. The team of ANSS also appealed to the Education minister to incorporate Gorkha litterateurs, who have immense contribution in Nepali literature, in ‘Sahityik’ (Literary) Pension Award. In 2021-22, not a single litterateur belonging to the Gorkha community was enlisted for the award. The ANSS team requested the minister to include members of the Gorkha community in coming years for the award. Ranoj Pegu assured the team that he would look into the matter seriously.
