Arrest of NSCN-KYA chief’s brother and PREPAK cadres in joint operation

DIBRUGARH, Dec 1: In a collaborative effort involving the Eastern Command Intelligence Battalion (ECIB), Assam Police, and 18 Garhwal Rifles, a successful operation resulted in the apprehension of two PREPAK cadres and one associate of NSCN-KYA in the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

The operation unfolded with the arrest of a PREPAK cadre in the vicinity of Dibrugarh airport. Subsequently, acting on the information provided by the detainee, the joint operation intercepted one more PREPAK cadre and an NSCN-KYA associate in the Jagun area of Tinsukia district. The trio was reportedly en route to Myanmar via Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Digboi, Jagun, and Jairampur.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Marmet Ngaimong (29), Nongthombam Kabichandram Singh (38), and Pebam Akash Singh (23). The two captured PREPAK cadres, Nongthombam Kabichandram Singh and Pebam Akash Singh, hail from Imphal East and Imphal West districts in Manipur.

Significantly, Marmet Ngaimong is identified as the younger brother of NSCN-KYA chairman Yung Aung. According to sources, he played a coordinating role based on the directives of his elder brother, Yung Aung.

The joint operation underscores the collaborative efforts of intelligence and security forces in curbing activities that pose a threat to regional security and stability. The arrest of individuals associated with insurgent groups aims to disrupt their networks and prevent illicit activities in the region.
