DIPHU, April 15: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) publicity secretary, Daniel Teron, has criticised the election manifesto of the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) for not mentioning issues like removing non-tribal voters from the KAAC voter list, and making new rules for Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Both parties are contesting in the upcoming second phase of Parliamentary elections in Assam on April 26.
The ASDC has fielded its general secretary and former chief executive member (CEM) of KAAC, Jotson Bey, as the party candidate, while the APHLC-backed independent party has fielded its president, JI Kathar, as their candidate.
The APHLC recently released its election manifesto, which highlighted matters such as fighting for the implementation of Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution, opposition to the dilution of 6th Schedule provisions, revamping education quality, and many more.
During a press conference held at the ASDC central committee office here on Monday, Teron criticised JI Kathar and his party, stating, “JI Kathar and his party APHLC have always been vocal about the deletion of names of non-tribal voters from the voter list of KAAC and framing new KAAC rules as per paragraph 2 of sub-paragraph 7 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India. Although these were important issues for the APHLC, it is quite interesting that they were not reflected in their election manifesto.”
Teron also mentioned that the APHLC has been demanding a re-election of KAAC.
They further argued that the last KAAC election was conducted under the Panchayati Raj system and not as per the Sixth Schedule provisions, demanding that a re-election be conducted.
According to Teron, the APHLC has misled the people by spreading false propaganda.
