Sarma called the incident ‘tragic’ and stressed the need for increased vigilance within the academic community. He suggested that more students at IIT Guwahati may be associated with ISIS, based on preliminary investigations by state police.

He mentioned that these students’ thought processes appear to have been radicalized, and discussions with their parents have occurred. Central agencies have been informed about the situation.

Sarma emphasized the urgency of addressing radicalization in educational institutions. Farooqui’s arrest led to swift action, with the Special Task Force (STF) Assam conducting routine checks at IIT Guwahati to investigate further potential ISIS links among students.

Sarma’s comments highlight the seriousness of the situation and the need for robust measures to counter extremist ideologies, especially in academic environments.
