GUWAHATI, Dec 3: In a proactive move to curb the rise in road accidents during year-end festivities, the state director general of police (DGP), G P Singh, announced a special drive on road safety set to commence on December 15. The initiative aims to ensure safer roads and reduce the incidence of accidents during the holiday season.
Expressing concerns about the surge in road accidents during the new year celebrations, DGP G P Singh emphasised the collaborative efforts needed to address road safety effectively. He mentioned that monthly meetings involving all stakeholders, including Transport, NHAI, and other relevant departments, are conducted to review and strategize road safety measures.
“We have been regularly issuing instructions and advisories to prioritize road safety during the festive season. Our upcoming special drive aims to further intensify these efforts,” stated DGP Singh. He highlighted key safety measures that citizens must adhere to during their travels, including the importance of wearing helmets for both motorcycle drivers and passengers. Additionally, he emphasized the use of seatbelts by everyone in a car and cautioned against overspeeding, driving on the wrong side, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The special drive aligns with the state’s commitment to ensuring a safer and responsible travel environment during the holiday period.
