Guwahati, Dec 02: Assam Police reported two coordinated operations in Sribhumi district that led to the seizure of drugs worth ₹2.16 crore and the arrest of three suspected peddlers.
Police teams recovered 139.47 grams of heroin valued at ₹27.94 lakh and 376.62 kilograms of cannabis valued at ₹1.88 crore. The actions were conducted hours apart, forming part of a wider push to restrict drug movement across district routes.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on social media. He posted, “In Assam, drug peddling ends at the hands of @assampolice. ALWAYS!” In a follow-up post, he added, “In 2 swift ‘blockbusters’, @sribhumipolice seized 139.47 gm of heroin (₹27.94 lakh), 376.62 kg of ganja (₹1.88 crore), 3 peddlers arrested.”
Police said legal procedures have begun. The crackdown adds to a sequence of recent actions in districts flagged for trafficking routes, with further operations expected in the coming days.
