GUWAHATI, May 24: Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah has alleged that the BJP government has forgotten about Madhavdev because of its “busy schedule” and called on the government to make arrangements for resuming the Madhavdev Award.

He said, “The Sri Madhavdev Award was introduced in 2005 by former chief minister Tarun Gogoi. However, the BJP government has not maintained the continuity of the award. Perhaps due to some special preoccupation, the present BJP government has forgotten about Madhavdev.”

The senior Congress leader visited Bihpuria on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Madhavdev on Friday.

He urged the government to regularly present the award on the birth anniversary of Mahapurush Madhavdev. Borah asserted that the role of Madhavdev, who made the greatest contribution to unity and harmony in the intellectual, cultural, spiritual, religious, and linguistic spheres of Assam, is as glorious and proud as that of Srimanta Sankardev.

“We are trying to make the place a tourist attraction by taking appropriate measures to preserve the archaeological resources of the holy birthplace of Madhavdev and to promote the Ghosha, literature, songs, dances, and life of him in a national perspective,” the state Congress president said.
