Body recovered at Sootea

BISWANATH CHARIALI, April 22: Locals discovered a body lying in shallow grave in the Sootea area in Biswanath district on Monday.

According to sources, the village headman and some local residents smelt something stale near a land belonging to Numal Mura early during the day. When they reached the spot from where the smell was emanating, they discovered the decomposed body in a shallow grave covered by garbage. They soon informed the police. A team of police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body from the grave in the afternoon. The body was later sent for autopsy, the report6 of which is awaited.

The deceased has been identified as Dayal Mandal, a resident of Bholaguri in the southern part of Sootea. He had reportedly gone missing for the past nine days. His family had reportedly also verbally informed the Sootea police about his disappearance.

Meanwhile, the family members and the Sootea police had continued to trace the whereabouts of Dayal.

On the other hand, sources said that no one has seen Mura since the day Mandal had disappeared. Police are currently investigating the matter.
