DIPHU, Oct 13: The first death anniversary of former president of Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) – Karbi literary body, Hidinath Rongpi was observed at KLA here on Thursday. Rongpi died while serving as president of KLA in 2021.
Members of KLA lit candles and offered floral tributes to the portrait of late Rongpi. Executive members (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Surjya Rongphar and Madhuram Lekthe attended the observation.

EM Rongphar said that late Rongpi had contributed immensely towards the development of Karbi language. “Late Rongpi had a love for his people and Karbi language. Apart from his involvement in Karbi literature, the late Rongpi was also a politician and social worker. The legacy of Rongpi will continue towards the development and promotion of the Karbi language,” the EM said.
Late Rongpi was also the general secretary of Karbi Students Association from 1981-1982. A book on the life and activities of late Rongpi has also been released.
KLA vice president Karon Hansepi; assistant general secretary Bohoram Timung and others were present on the occasion.
