SIVASAGAR, Feb 9: The three-day ceremony for Sibsagar Girls’ College’s Diamond Jubilee got off to a colourful start on Sunday with a huge gathering of the college alumni and a ceremonial hoisting of college flags by Dr Protim Sharma, principal of the College and the president of the college governing body Dr Jogesh Borah in the morning .
It was followed by the felicitation programme of all former college principals, teachers and employees or their family members by the celebration committee.
The alumni meet was inaugurated by Dr Asna Cheta while the cultural programme was inaugurated by Manjula Bhattacharjya.
The book fair was inaugurated by Basanta Gogoi, president, ATASU.
Former principal Sonaram Baruah will unveil the statue of the first principal of the college Tuseswar Dutta tomorrow.
Prasanta Rajguru, the editor in chief, of the Prag News and a reputed writer will deliver the Biren Borkotoky Memorial Lecture on “Contemporary Assam, Asomiya and Our Future” on Monday.
The “Ananya Bota”, an award for a distinguished womam entrepreneur, will be presented to Anjali Mohan Chetia.
The evening cultural programme will be inaugurated by Samiran Phukan, general secretary, AASU.
The open session on February 11 will be inaugurated by Jogen Mohan, minister, Government of Assam. The souvenir will be released by Dr Basanta Goswami, the president, Asom Sahitya Sabha and the chief guest on the occasion will be Dr Ranuj Pegu, the Education Minister of Assam.
Pabitra Margherita, the Union Minister of State, and Dr Jiten Hazarika, the Vice Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University will attend the function as special guests.
Noted singer Tarali Sharma will be the main attraction of the musical night in the evening.
The cultutral procession will be flagged off by noted cultural activist Makhan Bora.
Dr Ranuj Pegu, education minister, Prof Jiten Hazarika, vice chancellor, Dibrugarh University and many other dignitaries will participate in the celebration.
Aranya manob Jadov Payeng will be presented “Professor of Practice” appointment, a special post under the NEP.
The institute was established in 1964.
