SIVASAGAR, June 19: In a significant verdict, the Court of Sivasagar District & Session Judge, Justice Lohit Kumar Saikia, has pronounced rigorous life imprisonment for Dipuraj Lahon (43), son of Golap Lahon and resident of Gahorichowabari, Namti under Halowating PS. The conviction is based on the charge of murdering a woman named Lily Gogoi (50) from the same village on December 8, 2016. The court, in case no SS 167/17, has also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the convict under Section 302 of the IPC. Furthermore, if the accused fails to deposit the fine, he will be subject to three months of simple imprisonment.
Additionally, the court has sentenced the convict to 10 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 or six months of simple imprisonment for the charge of robbery committed on the same day. As per the case details, the accused forcibly entered the victim’s house and fatally stabbed her with a ‘Gaitha’ before looting a gold chain weighing 1.5 tola and three gold rings.
The court has informed the accused of his right to appeal against the judgment in writing and subsequently remanded him to jail custody.
