District level rally cum awareness programme on child protection held in Haflong

HAFLONG, Aug 22: As part of the ‘Suroxito Xaishab Sonali Axom’ campaign on child protection, a significant event named the ‘District Level Rally cum Awareness Programme on Child Protection Issues’ was organised in Haflong. The initiative was undertaken by the District Child Protection Unit, Dima Hasao, in collaboration with the district administration, Dima Hasao, District Legal Service Authority, and AROH Society, Haflong.

The district-level rally was inaugurated by Simanta Kr Das, ACS, district commissioner, Dima Hasao, and commenced from the DC Office, Dima Hasao, proceeding to the District Library Auditorium Hall, passing by the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The rally aimed to raise awareness about child protection issues.

Following the rally, an awareness program focusing on Child Protection commenced at the District Library Auditorium Hall. The chief guest for the occasion was Col Ghanender Pratab Singh, commanding officer of 32 Assam Rifle, who inaugurated the program by lighting a lamp. He was joined by Shukram Chauhan, ACS, assistant commissioner, district administration, Nilopal Deka, APS, deputy superintendent of police, Rajat Moni Thaosen, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, Dima Hasao, and Rajdeep Kemprai, District Child Protection officer (in-charge).

The awareness program featured two key resource persons: Gautam Daimari, AJS secretary District Legal Service Authority, spoke on ‘Child Marriage’, and Dr Ronald Bathari, an anaesthesiologist and programme coordinator at Holy Spirit Rehab Centre, addressed ‘Substance Abuse’. The event also showcased a short video clip highlighting child marriage issues.

The event also incorporated recognition of winners in drawing competitions for students from different schools, including both primary and high school levels, as well as children residing at child care institutions like Hosanna Orphan Home and Home for Orphan & Destitute Children, Choto Wapu.

The program witnessed the participation of various official dignitaries, teachers, students, NGOs, POSHAN Scheme staff, and the general public.
