SIVASAGAR, July 4:
The contentious issue of delimitation has caused a major division within the All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU), the leading organisation spearheading the protest movement against it. A breakaway faction, called ATASU (Ind), has accused the central committee of compromising on the issue. The new faction, consisting of 30 regional committees, held a meeting in Sivasagar on Sunday and reaffirmed their commitment to continue democratic protests against delimitation and the declaration of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for six communities, including the Ahoms.
ATASU (Ind) leaders, including president Akhil Ahom and joint secretaries Sumit Handique and Mintu Duwora, expressed their concerns and vowed to protect the interests of the Ahom community. The faction remains resolute in their stance and will continue their protest activities.
