GUWAHATI, July 3: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and apprised him of the Higher Education Department’s ongoing initiatives, projects, and a detailed roadmap for transforming Assam’s academic landscape.
The meeting was part of the government’s continuing efforts to align the State’s higher education ecosystem with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to an official statement, Pegu briefed the Governor on the significant steps already undertaken to bring all universities under the framework of NEP 2020.
These include curriculum restructuring to support multidisciplinary learning, digital enablement of educational institutions, and upskilling of faculty members to meet national benchmarks.
The Minister also laid out the department’s forward-looking strategy aimed at enhancing the overall quality, inclusivity, and global competitiveness of higher education in the State.
Governor Acharya, while expressing his appreciation for the department’s efforts, remarked that with focused and timely initiatives, Assam has the potential to emerge as a prominent hub for higher education in the country.
He noted that strengthening the academic ecosystem is essential not only for the intellectual growth of the youth but also as a catalyst for the State’s broader development goals.
The Governor reiterated Raj Bhavan’s commitment to fully supporting the implementation of NEP 2020 in both letter and spirit.
He stressed the importance of creating a robust academic environment that empowers students, equips educators with necessary tools and resources, and places Assam firmly on the national and global education map.
The meeting, the statement added, reflected the government’s strong resolve to usher in a new era of academic excellence driven by innovation, collaboration, and equity in learning opportunities.
