Raj Bhawan reviews NEP 2020 implementation in universities

GUWAHATI, July 1: In a continued effort to assess and accelerate the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state, the Raj Bhavan Assam on Tuesday convened a high-level review meeting at its campus under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

The meeting brought together Vice-Chancellors and senior academic officials from several universities across Assam to discuss the progress and challenges associated with the policy’s execution in higher education institutions.

According to an official statement, the meeting was conducted by Dr Harbansh Dixit, Advisor to the Raj Bhavan Secretariat, and Prof. Bechan Lal, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Raj Bhavan.

The session focused on taking stock of the status of NEP 2020 implementation in state universities, with emphasis on core components such as skilling, research and development, innovation, placement, entrepreneurship, and the strengthening of Alumni-Academia-Industry linkages.

The policy’s broader goal of ensuring the holistic development of human resources also featured prominently in the discussions.

The participants reaffirmed the importance of NEP 2020 as a transformative roadmap for the Indian education system and acknowledged the role of higher education institutions in shaping a future-ready generation.

In keeping with Governor Acharya’s advice, the meeting reiterated Raj Bhavan’s commitment to supporting university initiatives that enhance student welfare, academic excellence, and inclusive education.

Special focus was placed on the responsibilities of Vice-Chancellors to ensure comprehensive, institution-wide implementation of the NEP.

The review saw active participation from representatives of Dibrugarh University, Assam Women’s University, Bodoland University, and Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University.

Among the attendees were Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, Academic Registrars, IQAC Directors and Coordinators, and other senior academic officials.

This session was part of a broader series of consultative meetings initiated by Raj Bhavan to promote effective rollout of the NEP 2020 across Assam’s higher education landscape.

Senior officials from the Raj Bhavan and the state Higher Education Department were also present at the meeting, reinforcing the government’s focus on aligning academic institutions with the objectives laid out in the national policy.

The Raj Bhavan noted that such collaborative reviews are crucial to tracking progress, identifying implementation gaps, and building consensus among stakeholders to realise the vision of a dynamic and future-oriented higher education system in the state.
