DIPHU, April 8: Renrish Ronghang, along with his youngest son and daughter, residing in Puralangso under the Garampani MAC constituency in Dima Hasao district, has been facing immense challenges as they have all lost their eyesight. Their lives have been marked by adversity.
The reporter from The Hills Times visited Ronghang and his family at their home in Puralangso, where they shared their difficult experiences.
Ronghang recounted that he lost his eyesight 11 years ago, while his youngest son, Lendro Ronghang, aged 29, and daughter, Merila Ronghangpi, aged 27, lost their eyesight at a young age, during their primary school years.
“It’s been 11 years since I lost my eyesight. My son Lendro Ronghang and daughter Merila Ronghang lost their eyesight at an early age, while attending the village school at the primary level. It wasn’t sudden; rather, my two children gradually began losing their eyesight. They couldn’t see the alphabet like other children in school, so they discontinued their education,” Ronghang explained.
As all three members of the family are visually impaired, Ronghang’s son-in-law, Moniram Singnar, along with his wife and children, reside with them to provide care and support.
Singnar revealed that due to the family’s economic constraints, they have been unable to afford cataract surgery for Ronghang, Lendro, and Merila. He mentioned that the family has not received any government assistance and appealed for support to enable the family members to undergo surgery and regain their eyesight.
The village headman of Borolarpheng, Kamsing Ronghang, has urged the authorities of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council to provide financial assistance to Renrish Ronghang’s family for the cataract operations.
