TEZPUR, May 14: Ishwar Prasanna Hazarika, former member of Parliament from the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency has passed away at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi.
He breathed his last on Monday at the age of 88 years due to prolonged heart ailment and associated complications. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Tezpur constituency in 1996 as a member of the Indian National Congress.
As a civil servant, Hazarika had served in different key positions during his career. He served as the chairman and managing director of MMTC, director on the Board of NTPC, chairman of ASEB, income tax commissioner and in key positions in GAIL SAIL before joining politics.
Born on January 22, 1937 to freedom fighter Tirtheswar Hazarika and Mokshada Devi in Lakhimpur district, the meritorious late Hazarika pursued his college education at the Cotton College, Banaras Hindu University and the Delhi School of Economics. He also held a barrister degree from the United Kingdom.
Different organizations and individuals including Dadul Borkakati, president of Sonitpur District Congress Committee, senior congress leader of Sonitpur, Madhurjya Goswami, Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha, former Tezpur MLA Brindaban Goswami, vice-chairman of AMTRON, Ritubaran Sarma and several others have deeply mourned the death of Hazarika.
He is survived by his wife Chaya Hazarika, two sons, a daughter and several grieving relatives
