Guwahati, Feb 23: A unique ‘Swachhta Green Leaf Rating System’ was launched in Kaziranga National Park, Assam on Thursday.
The system was inaugurated by Smt. Vini Mahajan, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, in the presence of officials from both Central and State governments and various hotel, resort, and homestay owners.
An interactive session was also conducted to discuss the adoption of safe sanitation practices in the tourism sector and its significance in promoting sustainable tourism within the park. The Secretary DDWS highlighted the importance of Faecal Sludge management, Solid Waste and greywater management.
Some hotel owners expressed concerns about inadequate infrastructure for waste management. The district administration assured them about the existing Material Recovery Facility under the Bokakhat Municipal Board (BMB) for treating solid waste and the system for waste collection from resorts and hotels.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary PHED cum MD Jal Jeevan Mission,Assam and Commissioner, P&RD cum Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission(Grameen), Assam; District Commissioner, Golaghat, District Commissioner, Nagaon along with State and local district administration officials.
